The Free State Saxophone Quartet performs an eclectic mix of classical, jazz, and original repertoire ranging from masterworks by Bach, Bernstein, and Shostakovich to the unique sounds of George Gershwin, Sammy Nestico, Bob Mintzer, and Astor Piazzolla, specially arranged and composed for the saxophone quartet. Formed in 2007, the ensemble is comprised of music educators who all live and work in the Baltimore/Washington, DC corridor. Our unique sound is a result of a keen focus on blend, balance and precision. The primary mission of the quartet is to make chamber music accessible to a wide range of listeners and enlighten our audiences about the versatility of the saxophone.
